VISUAL ARTS— Understanding
Images and words—thoughts and expression—are often considered separate experiences. However specialized the realms of words and images may seem, visually-based metaphors and similes create common ground. When we give children the opportunity to manipulate colour, shape, texture, line, form and space to create their own imagery, we teach them another way to express themselves—a powerful new language of symbol and metaphor.
