Physical Education & Health

We play an active role in helping to maintain and promote the health and well-being of our students by working closely with the Huron County Health Unit and the Perth County Health Unit. We work in partnership to offer a variety of programs, services and initiatives that not only benefit our students, but also the larger community. Some of these programs include the Healthy Schools Initiative and Pilot Program for school-based Public Health Nurse Services in Perth County Catholic Elementary schools. In order to make our schools healthier places to learn and improve student achievement, we also ensure that our students engage in at least twenty minutes of vigorous daily physical activity .

All of our grade 3 students across the board are involved in the Swim to Survive program. It provides students with 3 in-water swimming lessons and 3 in-class water safety lessons at no cost to the children or parents through a school grant program. . Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be life threatening; it requires avoidance strategies and immediate response in the event of an emergency.

An Act to Protect Anaphylactic Pupils: Sabrina's Law came into force on January 1, 2006, and is the first legislation of its kind anywhere in the world. This law ensures all school boards have policies or procedures in place to address anaphylaxis in schools, which includes providing instruction to staff and guidance on the administration of medication. Note: The Huron and Perth County Health Units may have views or beliefs that differ from that of our Board.
